Affidavit of Support

Affidavit of Support

Affidavit of Support:

An Affidavit of Support is a legal document filed by a sponsor in an immigration case to demonstrate their ability and willingness to financially support the immigrant. The affidavit is typically required for family-based immigration petitions and some employment-based petitions. The sponsor must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and must meet certain income requirements. The Affidavit of Support creates a legally enforceable contract between the sponsor and the U.S. government, requiring the sponsor to provide financial support to the immigrant until they become a U.S. citizen or have worked in the U.S. for a certain number of years. If the immigrant receives means-tested public benefits, the government may seek reimbursement from the sponsor.
