Request for Information (RFI)

A Request for Information (RFI) is a formal written request from a contractor to the property owner or their representative, seeking clarification, interpretation, or additional information about the construction project. RFIs are typically used to address ambiguities, conflicts, or omissions in the project documents, such as the plans, specifications, or contract. They may also be used to propose alternative materials or methods, or to request changes to the scope of work. RFIs should include a clear and concise description of the issue or question, along with any relevant references or attachments. The purpose of an RFI is to ensure that all parties have a common understanding of the project requirements and expectations, and to prevent delays or errors due to miscommunication or misinterpretation. RFIs should be submitted in a timely manner, tracked and documented throughout the project, and responded to promptly and thoroughly by the appropriate party.
