Amicus Curiae Brief

An Amicus Curiae Brief is a legal document submitted by a third party, known as an “amicus curiae” or “friend of the court,” in a legal proceeding to provide additional information, analysis, or perspective on the issues before the court. In the context of human rights, amicus briefs may be submitted by human rights organizations, experts, or advocates to provide the court with relevant human rights standards, comparative legal analysis, or other specialized knowledge that may assist the court in its decision-making. Amicus briefs are an important tool for civil society to engage with the legal system and to promote the consideration of human rights in judicial proceedings.
