Discovery Requests

Discovery requests are legal documents used by parties in a lawsuit to obtain information and evidence from each other. They can take various forms, such as interrogatories (written questions), requests for production of documents, or requests for admission. The purpose of discovery is to allow the parties to gather the facts and evidence needed to support their claims or defenses and to prevent surprise at trial. Discovery requests are typically served on the opposing party after the complaint and answer have been filed, and the responding party has a specified time period to provide the requested information or object to the requests. The scope of discovery is governed by the applicable rules of civil procedure, which generally allow for broad disclosure of relevant, non-privileged information. Discovery can be a time-consuming and expensive process, but it is an essential part of the litigation process, as it helps to level the playing field and ensure that all parties have access to the same information.
