Educational Placement Notice

An Educational Placement Notice is a written document that informs parents or guardians of the school district’s decision regarding the educational placement of their child with a disability. The notice typically includes a description of the proposed placement, the reasons for the decision, and the options considered by the IEP team. The placement decision must be based on the student’s individual needs and must be made in the least restrictive environment (LRE) that is appropriate for the student. The notice must also inform parents of their right to participate in the decision-making process and to request a due process hearing if they disagree with the proposed placement. The Educational Placement Notice is an important tool for ensuring that parents are fully informed and involved in decisions about their child’s education and that students with disabilities are educated in the most appropriate and inclusive setting possible.
