Individualized Education Program (IEP)

An Individualized Education Program (IEP) is a written document that outlines the special education and related services that a student with a disability will receive to support their learning and development. The IEP is developed by a team that includes the student, their parents or guardians, teachers, and other school staff, and is based on a comprehensive evaluation of the student’s strengths, needs, and goals. The IEP typically includes specific goals and objectives, as well as accommodations, modifications, and supports that will be provided to help the student make progress in the general education curriculum and achieve their individual potential. The IEP is reviewed and revised annually, and is a critical tool for ensuring that students with disabilities receive a free and appropriate public education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment (LRE).
