Motion for Default Judgment

A motion for default judgment is a legal request filed by the plaintiff asking the court to enter a judgment in their favor when the defendant has failed to respond to the complaint or otherwise defend against the lawsuit. It is typically filed after the defendant has been properly served with the complaint and summons and has not filed an answer or appeared in court within the required time frame. The motion must include evidence of proper service and a statement of the relief sought, such as monetary damages or injunctive relief. If the court grants the motion, a default judgment will be entered against the defendant, which can be enforced through various legal means, such as wage garnishment or property liens.
