Request for Discharge of Debts
Request for Discharge of Debts
A Request for Discharge of Debts is a legal document filed by a debtor in a bankruptcy case to request a discharge of certain types of debts. A discharge is a legal order that releases the debtor from personal liability for certain types of debts and prohibits creditors from taking any further collection actions against the debtor. The types of debts that are eligible for discharge vary depending on the type of bankruptcy case, but generally include unsecured debts such as credit card debts, medical bills, and personal loans. Some types of debts, such as student loans and certain taxes, are generally not dischargeable. The Request for Discharge of Debts must be filed with the bankruptcy court after the debtor has completed all required bankruptcy proceedings, such as the meeting of creditors and any required financial management courses.
