Letter of Representation

A Letter of Representation is a document prepared by an attorney or other legal representative on behalf of a policyholder or claimant in an insurance matter. The letter typically introduces the representative to the insurance company and outlines the scope of their authority to act on behalf of the client, such as communicating with the insurer, negotiating settlements, or pursuing legal action. Letters of representation are often used in complex or disputed insurance claims, such as those involving large losses, multiple parties, or coverage disputes, to ensure that the policyholder’s interests are protected and to facilitate communication and resolution of the claim. They may also be required by the insurance company or by law in certain jurisdictions or types of claims.
