Copyright Term Extension Application

A Copyright Term Extension Application is a legal document filed with the U.S. Copyright Office to request an extension of the term of copyright protection for a work that was originally published or registered before January 1, 1978. The extension can be granted for an additional 20 years beyond the original term of 28 years, for a total of 95 years from the date of first publication or registration. The application must be filed by the copyright owner or their representative within a specified time period before the end of the original term.
