Variance Application

A Variance Application is a formal request to a local zoning board or authority to grant an exception to a specific zoning requirement or regulation. Property owners or developers may seek a variance when they wish to use their land in a manner that does not conform to the existing zoning ordinances, such as building closer to property lines or exceeding height restrictions. The Variance Application must demonstrate that the proposed exception is necessary due to unique circumstances or hardships and that it will not negatively impact the surrounding community. The zoning board will review the application and may hold a public hearing before deciding to approve or deny the variance request.
