Adjustment of Status Application (Form I-485) and Supporting Documents (if applicable)
Adjustment of Status Application (Form I-485) and Supporting Documents (if applicable)
Form I-485 is the application used by foreign nationals to adjust their status to that of a lawful permanent resident while in the United States. In immigration court proceedings, individuals who are eligible for adjustment of status, such as those with an approved family-based or employment-based immigrant petition, may file Form I-485 as a form of relief from removal. The application must be accompanied by supporting documents, such as proof of the individual’s eligibility for the underlying immigrant visa, evidence of their lawful entry into the United States (if applicable), and documentation of their admissibility, including a medical examination and police clearances. If the adjustment of status application is approved by the immigration judge, the individual will be granted lawful permanent resident status, and the removal proceedings will be terminated.
