Affidavit of Support (Form I-864)

Form I-864 is a legally enforceable contract between a sponsor (usually a U.S. citizen or permanent resident) and the U.S. government, in which the sponsor agrees to provide financial support to a foreign national seeking a family-based immigrant visa or adjustment of status. The form requires the sponsor to demonstrate that they have sufficient income or assets to maintain the intending immigrant at 125% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines and is required for most family-based immigration cases to ensure that the immigrant does not become a public charge.
