Payment Receipt
Payment Receipt
A Payment Receipt is a written acknowledgement provided by a creditor or debt collector to a debtor, confirming the receipt of a payment towards an outstanding debt. The receipt typically includes the date and amount of the payment, the method of payment, and the remaining balance of the debt. The receipt may also include a statement of the creditor’s application of the payment to the principal, interest, or fees associated with the debt. The purpose of a Payment Receipt is to provide the debtor with proof of their payment and to ensure that the creditor or debt collector is accurately crediting the payment to the debtor’s account. The receipt may be used by the debtor to dispute any errors or discrepancies in the creditor’s records, or to demonstrate their good faith efforts to repay the debt in the event of legal action. The receipt should be retained by the debtor for their records.
