Proof of Service

Proof of service is a document that demonstrates that a particular filing or evidence has been properly served on the opposing party. In immigration court proceedings, the respondent must serve a copy of any documents filed with the court on the government attorney, and vice versa. Proof of service can be in the form of a certificate of service, which is a written statement signed by the person who served the documents, indicating the date and manner of service. Failure to properly serve documents on the opposing party may result in the court refusing to consider the documents or the party being subject to sanctions.
