Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) is a form of immigration relief available to certain children who have been abused, neglected, or abandoned by one or both parents and who are under the jurisdiction of a state juvenile court. To apply for SIJS, a state court must first make certain findings about the child’s eligibility, and then the child must file a petition (Form I-360) with USCIS. In immigration court proceedings, a copy of the complete SIJS petition package, including the state court order and any relevant supporting evidence, should be submitted as evidence of the child’s eligibility for relief and their need for protection.
