International Oil Pollution Prevention Certificate (IOPPC)
The International Oil Pollution Prevention Certificate (IOPPC) is a document certifying that a ship complies with the requirements of MARPOL Annex I for the prevention of oil pollution. Key features include:
1. Ship’s particulars (name, distinctive number or letters, port of registry, gross tonnage)
2. Type of ship (oil tanker, ship other than an oil tanker with cargo tanks, or other ships)
3. Details of oil filtering equipment and discharge monitoring systems
4. Arrangements for retention of oil residues (sludge)
5. Shipboard oil pollution emergency plan details
This certificate is required for all oil tankers of 150 gross tonnage and above, and all other ships of 400 gross tonnage and above engaged in international voyages. It ensures that ships have the necessary equipment and procedures to prevent oil pollution at sea.
