The Safety Management Certificate (SMC) is a document issued to a ship certifying compliance with the requirements of the International Safety Management (ISM) Code. Key features include:

1. Ship’s name, type, and IMO number

2. Name and address of the company operating the ship

3. Date of issue and expiry

4. Type of audit (initial, renewal, or intermediate)

5. Issuing authority (flag state or recognized organization)

This certificate is required for all ships covered by the ISM Code, as per SOLAS Chapter IX. It verifies that the ship is operating in accordance with the approved Safety Management System, ensuring safe operations and environmental protection at the individual ship level.
